I've Moved!!

Well first I'd like to say sorry for not posting in so long. I had a LOT going on. I moved back to America and I'm still getting settled a little bit in school. I'm also not sure how often I'll be able to upate this blog anymore. Since I moved I am the only juggler in my neighborhood and the closest juggling club is a few hours drive away. I also haven't had much time at all to practice but I'm trying to work out a schedule so I can practice more often. I hope I can update more often but there is not much juggling things going on near me. Sometimes I just wish I could go back in time when I felt so accomplished learning a new trick. Now I have to learn 5 balls to unlock more tricks. I looked up all the 3 ball tricks I could online but there aren't much left. The only way I think I could learn more is by buying the Encyclopedia to Ball Juggling but I dont have much money.

IJC - Israeli Juggling Convention

Well I'm sorry I didn't post in a long time but I was really busy.

Now to the main subject.

This years IJC was great even though i only stayed 2 out of 5 days. I had a change of plans so we had to leave earlier. When I first got there I sent up my tent and went to the registration desk. Their were a lot of juggling shops their too. When I got into the gym their was a lot of jugglers their already. The thing I liked a lot about the IJC were the workshops. They had this big board where you can see all the workshops. I was happy I came the first day because I bought a lot of new stuff and the first day is where the start teaching everything from the basics. Now if I remember correctly first I bought a contact ball, then poi, then a staff, and finally 3 Dx balls. The contact ball is kind of hard with the balancing and the rolling and stuff. Though I'm still working on it. The poi are okay I know some tricks even though I came late to the workshop. I like the staff most of all it is some much fun to use and to learn with. The Dx balls are also really great, I was able to do back crosses with them. So far my record for back crosses is 4 catches.
They also had a fire show the first night too and it was really good. I only wish that more people could have juggled torches rater then fire poi.
Oh ya also I can now do double spins good with 3 clubs. I don't know why it took me so long but I can do it now.

The second day was great too. I had a lot of fun and I got interested to start yo-yoing. They had a special guest show too the second day and it was really really good. The organizers did a great job with the convention and I recommend anyone who wants to have a great time juggling to go to the IJC.
I wish I stayed the whole 5 days!!

That's it for now!

PS: sorry in my grammar was bad, I'm just really tired. ( Thank god for spell check )

Total Review: Juggling, Magic, Equipment

Sorry I didn't post anything in a while.

Juggling: Well I registered for the IJC (Israeli Juggling Convention) this year so I can't wait to go. It's supposed to be really cool. One of the performers is Luke Burrage. The convention site is supposed to be really nice too. Also I'm staying there for 4 out of 5 days which is still good. After April 8 I'll post about it.

Magic: Well I learned some really cool tricks so far. I learned how to take a blank business card and print out my business card from my hand, levitate, make a coin appear and disappear, and much more. The deck of cards I got was totally awesome. The feel of the deck was great and the new ace of spades was worth the price of the deck alone. I'm going to buy a lot more stuff in the future.

Equipment: There is not much here but I got some new beanbags and I got some cheap non-bounce tennis balls which are just like stage almost. I'll just put some balloons on them and I'm set. I got them for 2.5 shekels each which is like around 50 cents each which isn't bad.

well that's all for now!

Magic

Well I was looking through my dresser and I found my magic card trick book. They were very basic tricks mainly pick a card and not really visual tricks. I looked on the internet and found the ellusionist.com. Literally the best magic supplies site in the world! The next morning I bought this "How to do Street Magic" DVD and 3 decks of Bicycle Master Edition cards. I looked into it and found that the DVD was the one of the best learning DVDs ever. It also came with cool bonuses. So far I learned the throw vanish which is when you appear to through a card into thin air and then bring it out of thin air. It is a really cool visual trick, not like my old pick a crad tricks. The thing I don't like in my school is that when they see a good magic trick they can't just admit it. They always say like " oh that's so easy" and " I can do that". I also learned a way to levitate but I'm not that good at it.
Well juggling isn't good to be the only thing I post about anymore.

Juggling Goals 2007

Well I never really made good goals before but here is what I got.

1) 3 ball
  • 3 ball back crosses
  • 3 ball multiplexes

2) 4 ball

  • 5 ball cascade - 100 catches

4) Rings

  • 4/5 rings - 100 catches

5) Clubs

Well that's all I could think of right now but I'll update it soon.

Good News, Bad News

Well the bad news is I forgot to bring my juggling balls the day of the test.
The good news is that I don't think I could have joggled and improve my time at the same time. Also without joggling I set a new time for myself: 7:20. That was 18 seconds better then my old time and I got 5th place out of 21 kids. The kid who got first place had 6:21 but last time he got 6:19.
Well anyway I stopped working on 5 balls for since I want to get the hang of 3 and 4 balls. I been trying to do the 4 ball shower and I got like 7 catches.
With rings I can stack them around my neck while juggling pretty good and I working on other easy 3 ring tricks. Oh and I have a total of like 120 catches with rings.
I think I'll end this post with my original phrase.

Re-Inspired

Hey sorry i didn't post anything over the last few months, I was really busy studying for my bar mitzvah. Well to tell the truth I haven't juggled much over the last few months either but that doesn't mean I don't like juggling anymore. Out of all the gifts I got for my birthday I didn't get one juggling thing until 3 days ago. Three of my friends got my some mister babache juggling rings. Then it all came crashing back to me. I love juggling. That's what inspired me to review everything that happened to me over the past few month's.

Well first off all the mini circus in school died down after a while. Well anyway in PE class we had to run around this block which is about a mile and a half long! So far my best time is 7:38. Now we have a big test this Monday and we have to run that block. So i was thinking that maybe I'll joggle during the test. I'm not sure if i should b/c i haven't really joggled yet and it might slow down my time. My friend told me at school that a 100 on the test is to get 6:30 or lower. My previous time of 7:38 would have got me an 80, so if I'm going to joggle I'm going to have to try it out first and see if I can do it without many drops.

I like to thank Scott for performing at my party! Thanks for that 2 ball trick I'm getting pretty good at it.

Now since I got my rings I can only do around 30 catches so far so I'll probably work on that over the weekend. Those 3 rings I got were really the things that inspired me to start juggling again. Also I heard that there might be a talent show at my school during March so I have to start practicing. I want to learn some more 3 ball tricks so if anyone has some ideas can you please comment or email me. Thanks.

Well that was really it over the last few months so now I'll try to post often.

Mini Circus at School

Today at school I saw kids with diabolos and flowersticks. It really did look like at circus because there were a lot of kids watching. I was jealous. Don't you ever get the feeling that when you walk around and you see someone juggling you really wish you brought your juggling stuff with you. Well that's how I felt. I was seriously thinking of bring a lot of my stuff for the next day but I don't think that brings my clubs to would idea. I probaly just bring some balls, diabolo, and maybe my clubs. Speaking of clubs, I'm getting my broken club replaced tonight! I'm not sure if the handle is silver but I know the top part is yellow.

5 balls

I working on 5 balls now! I started working on 5 around a week or two ago. I'm flashing 5 around 3 out of every 10 tries. I got the height right but I dont always cross the last 2 balls.
The guy who sold me the clubs should be coming to my club on Thursday so I'll be able to show him my club and see if it can get replaced or something.

Drops

Sorry that I haven't posted in a while so here is a little something.

Is it possible to have a bad juggling day? Today when I was working on 4 balls I dropped a lot! I would try again but like 20 seconds later I would drop.Eventually I got so annoyed that I became angry. I even tried that thing where you relax, breathe, and think about what you are doing wrong. You guessed it, it didn't work eitheir. Can you guys give me some tips?

Cracked Club

You won't believe this but on Sunday I discovered that one of my clubs had a small crack in the bulb! I have no idea how this happened. I sent an email to the guy who sold it to me asking if there is any kind of warranty or something. I just can't believe it cracked in only like two months. Can you guys tell me ways clubs can crack as in what surface would be best to juggle them. I usually juggle them in my room which has tiles for thr floor. Maybe that did it.

Forgot to Tell

I forgot to tell a few things in the previous posts I posted. Well for one I got really good at the 4 ball fountain. My high is 131 catches. I'm working on tricks now and I can't wait to start 5 balls but that might be in a few months. Also I beat my old club record last night!
With Circus Club: 161
With Rad. Fish Club: 232
and my new high score is 285 catches!! I'm also learning tricks with clubs like double spins, under the leg, and tennis(which I'm pretty good at).
I'm also trying to put together a 3 ball routine. I'm just wondering when you guys do a routine do you have background music long enough to last the whole routine or do you put on the music and continue your routine when it ends? I'm just wondering because I found really good music but it only lasts for around a minute. If you would like to answer just post a comment or email me.
That's pretty much what's going on here that's juggling related.

Siteswaps

Tonight I finally understand standard siteswaps. I learned from http://didier.arlabosse.free.fr/balles/english/siteswap.html
A long time ago when I first tried to learn siteswaps it was to complicated and confusing for me but now I get it. This bottom part isn't really important but I just want to make sure I got most the stuff right so that if I ever teach someone siteswaps, I'll know how. If I made a mistake please comment this post and tell me. Thank You.

Siteswaps:
  • Every time that you throw or should throw a ball is a beat.
  • 0 - is an empty hand
  • 1 - is transfer or ball which changes hand immediately
  • 2 - is not launched or kept ball

Now the easiest siteswap is 333.... which is the 3 ball cascade. The 4 ball fountain would be 4444.... The 5 ball cascade would be 55555...... To know how many balls to use notice that there are only three numbers in 333 meaning that you pass three balls. So you now know that you juggle 3 balls on 333 on 4 balls on 4444.

Note:

  • 3 - is a 3 ball throw, meaning you throw to your other hand
  • 4 - is a 4 ball throw, meaning you would throw it up to the same hand at not the other hand.
  • You always throw right-left-right-left-right-left.

One of the easiest siteswaps is 432. Now lets break it down.

  • 4-2-3 Ok so the 4 is a four ball throw. That is one beat.
  • 4-2-3 2 is a not launched or kept ball meaning you don't throw it.
  • 4-2-3 Then it is a 3 ball throw. That is another beat.

So you throw lets say ball 1 from your right in a 4 ball throw. Ball 2 in your left you don't throw because it's a 2 (not launched or kept ball). When ball 1 starts to come down then you throw ball 3 to your left hand because it's a 3 ball throw. Catch it in your left hand. You just did a 423! You can also do this continuously. 423423423423423423423.......

(It help to have a drawing or animation around)

There are also other tricks like 441 and 531

441- The 441 is just throw a 4 ball throw from your right and a 4 ball throw from right left and then (1) pass the other ball in your right hand to your left. You can continue it more if you like.441441441441

531- 531 is a little tricky. First you throw ball 1 in a 5 ball throw ( higher then 3 ball throw). Then throw ball 2 in a 3 ball throw to your right. Finally pass ball 3 to your left hand. You can do this continuously 531531531531531531531......

I still don't know everything so if someone can, please tell me how you figure out whether a trick is able to be juggled or not. It feels really good knowing siteswaps! Sorry you had to read the above I just want to see if it makes sense to other people or not. If it doesn't make sense to you please comment this telling me. Thanks

Well I'm working really hard on 4 balls and tricks because I want to learn 5 balls eventually.

That's it for now. Thanks for Reading!

Juggling with Pets

Ok do not take the title literally. I don't know how to juggle pets but I know how to juggle with pets around. I have a dog who is 4 months old and is teething so anything he can get his teeth on he will get his teeth on. I had to sew up 2 beanbags so far because of him. While I was away on a 2 day trip he found my flower stick on the floor and bite off some of the decorations! I need to get it fixed so if anyone knows what I can buy or use to cover it up please comment this post. The decoration is green and is wrapped around near the flower part of it. Anyway my dog Cheerios loves it when I use my diabolo because he jumps up right in front of me trying to get it so I can't really practice with it much. Although sometimes he gets the string and I can pull back because it might break so I have to extend my hand to open up his mouth. There was also this one time where he got my diabolo and made 2 tiny little holes in it. Luckily he can't get my clubs when I'm using them because he gets scared when I drop. If I were to leave them on the floor he would probaly tear the knob off. Well now I know not to leave my stuff on the bed unless it is on the side with the wall because my dog just almost got my diabolo sticks.
If you have a dog I hope you find this post helpful so that you can avoid catastrophe.
If you have a cat I would recommend that you keep your beanbags/balls away from them because they may think they are toys.
If you have birds keep your beanbags that are filled with birdseed away from them.

Thanks for Reading!

I posted a picture of a flower stick and I'll show you what part my dog bit.

You see the gold and blue decoration by the flowery part. My dog bit off part of it except it was green instead of gold and blue. If you know a way that I could fix it please comment or email me.

Flower Sticks and Lots of New Tricks

Over the weekend I went up north to Sephat and on the way I went to Juggling Super Charlie. I wanted to get a flower stick for myself. When I got there I was amazed of the selection of products he had. I thought he only had what was on his site but boy I was wrong. He had 4 types of flower sticks (his site only showed one), he had many types of diabolos, and I didn't even know he sold clubs! His shop was more of a workshop then a store but it was really nice. It feels really good to have a juggling store near by. I also got a ribbon stick for free for coming all the way up there but I'm not really excited about that.
When I got home I opened up "The Complete Juggler" to Devil/Flower Sticks and learned the Helicopter, Double Sticking (Trapping), Half Flips, Full Flips, Kick Ups, and Airplane Propeller which I'm not so good at but I know how to do it.
Well in the category of clubs, I have been working on my club juggling a lot lately. I was mainly working on tricks besides kick-ups. I don't really have to much room to practice because I practice in my room and I can't always make it to my juggling club because I can't always get a ride there. So far I'm getting better at double spins and I can do juggler's tennis but I can only throw the club over once.
If you guys can, can you please comment or email me with either tips on making the propeller work or some easy 3 club tricks. Thank you.

Juggled at School

Well on my second day of school which is today. Our teacher went around the class and asked us about what we liked to do. Well obviously I said I like to juggle but I didn't expect some of the boys in my class to tell him that I can juggle 4 balls and I have them here ( I brought my juggling balls school school and showed them). The teacher asked me if I should just show him quickly so I showed a did a couple tricks with 3 balls too. I still need to practice a lot because I dropped one time during 4 balls and once during 3 balls. Well after that my teacher told me that in March my school has a little thing like a talent show and now I can't wait for March to come!

I forgot to tell you but a few days ago I flashed 5 balls! I can't flash 5 very often because I'm mainly working on 4 balls but I'm working on it.

With my diabolo I learned a handful of new tricks like cradles, grinds, and suicides! I'm not so good at suicides because I can't try it in my house because I'm worried if I miss that the handle sticks might break. I don't have a lot of time outside to practice because it's really hot out there.

Weekly Fun Reading Thing with Josh Dorsch (3#)

This weeks topic: What to do when you are out of ideas!

Well folks when your out of ideas like I am right now you should just talk about the fact that you are out of ideas. If you don't wont to write about the fact that you are out of ideas just don't write anything at all. But if you have to write something even though you are out of ideas I recommend that you right about what to do when you are out of ideas. Well this is all I got.

Fun Thing: If I was out of ideas what would I do?

If I was out of ideas I don't know what I would do!!! ;)

( If you don't get it read the first part!)

Finally!!!

Well my stuff from the US came yesterday. I finally got my diabolo, "The Complete Juggler", and my Batman/ Aliens 2 comic. ;)
The thing about the diabolo is that the string is way to long and isn't tied correctly. I had a friend over and helped me fix it. Besides that the handsticks are great with hard wood and cushioned handles. The diabolo itself is great but I still need to break it in a little bit. The Complete Juggler is great!! I was reading some of it last night and I loved it! It has really good diagrams and directions.
I also got my clubs today!!!!! I got 3 circus clubs. They were red, orange, and yellow. I really love them!
OK well that's all I got for now!
Bye
